About St John's Methodist Chapel, Loddon

St John's Methodist Chapel is a welcoming and inclusive church in the heart of Loddon, on the edge of the beautiful Norfolk Broads National Park. Since 1976, it has been part of a successful Local Ecumenical Partnership with Holy Trinity Anglican Church, sharing ministry, worship, buildings and finance. Together, the churches provide a strong Christian presence within the local community, welcoming people of all backgrounds and embracing diversity in all its forms.

The Grade II listed chapel is a well equipped and accessible community hub, featuring a worship space, lecture hall, kitchen facilities, disabled access and parking. It serves as a Civil Defence Emergency Centre and is home to the Loddon Food Bank, reflecting the church's commitment to supporting those in need. Worship takes place throughout the year, with services shared between St John's and Holy Trinity, and includes a variety of styles ranging from traditional Methodist worship and Holy Communion to more contemporary forms of praise.

Community engagement is at the heart of church life. The chapel hosts a wide range of local organisations and activities, including the History Society, British Legion, Community Cinema, Women's Institute, Flower Club, Pilates and Zumba classes, choirs, theatre groups and a parent, baby and toddler group. The church also runs Friends and Neighbours, a monthly gathering offering lunch, friendship and support for older people and those who are bereaved.

Alongside its established activities, St John's has developed new outreach initiatives to serve the wider community, including the 4C Youth Group in partnership with Norwich Youth for Christ, a free Community Lunch, Breakfast Church on the third Sunday of each month, and a weekly Bible study group. Music plays an important part in worship, with both traditional and contemporary styles encouraged through services, Songs of Praise gatherings, and the recently formed Let's Make Music group.

In 2026, the church celebrates 50 years of ecumenical partnership, giving thanks for a ministry built on cooperation, understanding and shared Christian witness.
