About Beccles Methodist and United Reformed Church (Hungate Church)

Beccles Methodist and United Reformed Church, often known as Hungate Church, is a Local Ecumenical Partnership bringing together the Methodist and United Reformed traditions since 1977. Situated close to the centre of the historic market town of Beccles, the church is a welcoming and well used community space where people gather to worship God, support one another, and serve the wider community.

Worship is at the heart of church life, with regular services that are mainly traditional in style and encourage participation from members of the congregation. The church family draws people from a variety of backgrounds and traditions and is known for its warm welcome, strong fellowship, and caring pastoral support.

Following a major refurbishment in 2003, the church building now provides a flexible worship space, a large hall, meeting rooms, and a welcoming Coffee Lounge. These facilities enable the church to host a range of activities and community events throughout the week. A particular highlight is the popular Friday Coffee and Chat, which welcomes church members, local residents, visitors to the town, and those accessing support from the Foodbank.

Hungate Church plays an active role in the life of Beccles and works closely with the other churches through Beccles Churches Together, regularly hosting united services and events. The church is also well known for the annual Hungate Christmas Tree Festival, one of the town's most popular community events, attracting thousands of visitors and raising funds for local charities and community groups.
